'For the Good of the Craft'2005-11-23
Brothers,

Over the next few days CAPTCHA routines (Completely Automated Public Turing to tell Computers from Humans Apart) will be added to several Grand Lodge website pages.

Examples:

Our 'Spread the Word' page:
http://www.grandlodgens.org/cntct/tell.php

Our Request Access Page:
http://www.grandlodgens.org/members/membersjoin.php

When entering security codes, you MUST type the code exactly as displayed, including upper and lower case.

If you get a messages telling you you have entered an incorrect security code, just try again. The security code display is meant to be diffcult to read and their is nothing I can do about that.

The reason for doing all this is to ensure that robots cannot hijack the pages that generate automatic emails to spam the Internet.

We have been requested to institute CAPTCHA by our webhost.

Many websites employing PHP email, as ours does, are subject to attacks of various kinds that with consciencious programming are easily foiled.

We are all aware that email spam is a serious problem on the Internet.

AS WELL, I ask you all to be judicious in forwarding messages, especially those containing large images or animations to groups of Masons. Such emails may be regarded as spam by your intended audience.

It is only polite to ask all those to whom you intend to fortward messages for their permission to do so. Naturally, you will have to keep your own record, probably in your email program, of people who don't mind getting your spam messages.

Personally, I am not interested in receiving cute little Masonic or religious poems and neither are many of your Brothers. I am also not interested in getting things with large animations or music files attached. They clog my inbox and affect my productivity.

I know the Grand Secretary would ask for the same consideration. So would many of your Brothers.
