I regret to inform you that Rt. Wor. Bro. Ernest Charles Wilkes of University Lodge No. 110 was raised to the Lodge above today (March 29,2000) at 3AM.

Please be advised that Masonic Service for Very Worshipful Brother Ernest Charles Wilkes will be this Friday March 31 at 7pm (1900 hours) in the Blue Room 1533 Barrington Street, Halifax NS.

IN MEMORIAM

Right Worshipful Brother Ernest Charles Wilkes PGP

He was born July 22, 1904 in Southsea, Portsmouth, England. He immigrated to Canada and worked the majority of his life in the Restaurant & Hotel industry.

 

He was initiated May 2, 1935, passed June 6, 1935 and raised July 4, 1935 in Royal Sussex No. 6 at Halifax Nova Scotia. He became a member of the Order of Eastern Star no. 7 in 1935. He was made a Noble of the Mystic Shrine on 15th January 1941 and served as Grand Sentinel 1947-48 in Grand Chapter. He served as Senior Deacon in Royal Sussex No. 6 before he affiliated with University Lodge No. 110 on May 4, 1951.

He served as Senior Warden in 1952 and Worshipful Master in 1953. He also served as Junior Steward in 1995 for University Lodge No. 110.

He joined Scottish Rite masonry with the 14th degree in 1944, the 18th degree and 32nd degree in 1945. He was invited to the 33rd degree in 1959. He joined the Royal Order of Scotland in 1960. He served Nova Scotia as Grand Lodge Officer in the office of Grand Pursuivant in 1970.

He was made Honourary Life Member of University Lodge on December 17, 1985. He was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal on October 22, 1987.

Brother Wilkes joined Northside No. 283 in St. Petersburg Florida on January 6, 1992. This enabled him to enjoy masonry during his winter visits to Florida.

The Rank of Honorary Past Senior Grand Warden was conferred upon Right Worshipful Brother Ernest Wilkes by Most Worshipful Brother Sam Karrel, Grand Master of Masons in Nova Scotia at the June 1997 Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia.

Brother Wilkes served in numerous capacities within University Lodge and will long be remembered for his excellent ritual work. He was awarded the 50 year Jewel and the 60 year bar to that Jewel. He was called to the Grand Lodge above on March 29, 2000 in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada.
