Once more my Brothers it is my very sad duty to inform you that on the morning of December 16th, 2004 Most Worshipful Brother James Roy Hale was raised to the Grand Lodge Above. Brother Roy was a good man and Mason and we knew him well and will miss him very much.

May it be your portion my Brother, to hear from Him who sittith as the Judge Supreme, well done thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things; Enter into the joy of thy Lord.

There will be a Masonic Funeral Service at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville at 6:30 pm on Sunday, 19 Dec, 2004.

The church service will be held at the St. Bee's Anglican Church on Church St. in Westville on Monday, 20 Dec. 2004 at 2:00 pm.

 


BIOGRAPHY

Most Worshipful Brother
James Roy Hale

Most Worshipful Brother James Roy Hale was born in Westville, Pictou County, N.S. on May 3, 1916, the son of William and Emma (Hill) Hale. He attended Westville schools.

Bro. Hale was employed as a Mine Surveyor for Intercolonial Coal Company for ten years and then as a Highway Technical Officer for the Department of Transportation for thirty-five years. He retired in 1981. Bro. Hale was a registered Mine Surveyor and a Nova Scotia' Land Surveyor.

Bro. Hale was married to Ruth Muirhead in 1940 and they had two children. A daughter, Marilyn Ann, now Mrs. Fred Jesty, resides in Mississauga, Ontario and their son, James, resides in Westville.

Bro. Hale was a member of St. Bees Anglican Church and was a licensed Lay Reader. He has served as Church Warden.

Bro. Hale was very active in community affairs, having served as Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor for seventeen years. He was the Chairman of the Aberdeen Hospital Board, President of the Pictou County Male Chorus and a Past President of the Westville Country Club.

Bro. Hale's Masonic career began in Western Star Lodge No. 50 in Westville. He was raised in 1948 and served in various offices until being installed as Worshipful Master in 1954. He served as secretary of his lodge for twenty-five years. Prior to his being installed as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia, Bro. Hale served this Grand Lodge as a Grand Steward, as a District Deputy Grand Master of Pictou County District from 1960 - 1961, and Deputy Grand Master during the period 1985 - 86 and 1986 - 87.

An Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Mason, he was a member of the Victoria Lodge of Perfection, Keith Chapter of Rose Croix and a 32° member of the Nova Scotia Consistory. He was a Past High Priest of St. John's Chapter and a member of Mount Lebanon Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, Malta Preceptory and Orient Council. He was a member of Royal Edward Chapter and a Founding Member of Royal William Chapter of Red Cross of Constantine. He was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland and a Past Potentate of Philae Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.

Bro. Hale was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Maple Leaf Lodge, Knights of Pythius.

Most Worshipful Brother James Roy Hale, passed to the Grand Lodge Above, at 8:00 AM, December 16th, 2004.

May the Great Architect of the Universe grant him everlasting peace and happiness.

We will miss him greatly.
